Despite what the papers say it's not all doom and gloom. Whilst it may not be the best time to be selling your house, 2009 is shaping up to be a great year to be part of the web community in Scotland.
Here are some of the events winging their way to us in the coming months:
Refresh Edinburgh
Monthly meet up of web developers and designers, usually the first Wednesday of each month in the City Cafe, Blair St.
Next meeting: 4th February.
Tech meetup
Monthly meet up of developers, tech companies and entepreuners. 7pm on the second Wednesday of every month, 8th floor, Appleton Tower.
Next meeting 11th February.
Open Knowledge Network
Monthly evening of digital fun and games taking place at the Peacock Visual Arts, Aberdeen.
Next meeting Friday 30th January, from 6.30pm.
Dorkbot workshop
Not technically web-related but bi-monthly meet up for those interested in building 'clever gadgets and contraptions'. Forest Cafe from 7pm, Tuesday 27th January.
Barcamp Scotland
The notorious unconference returns to Edinburgh on Saturday, 14th March at the School of Informatics, Appleton Tower. Get your name down and remember, first time attendees should give a presentation.
Scotland on Rails
2 day conference (plus workshops) celebrating the web application framework, Ruby on Rails. Described by RailsCore member Michael Koziarski as “the best small conference” he had ever attended. 26th-28th March, University of Edinburgh Pollock Halls.
jQuery - An Introduction
Introductory course to jQuery, the Javascript for dummies framework that makes rich website enhancements childs play.

Future of Web Design
Well, not Scottish but with no Highland Fling conference this Spring this will be the next best thing and no doubt a healthy Scottish contingency will be in attendance.
Reliably invaluable conference for all things web standards and designery. London, 30th April - 1st May.
Scotch on the Rocks
Scotch on the Rocks, established in 2005, is a conference based out of Edinburgh concentrating on all things ColdFusion. This years event will be taking place at the Caves in Edinburgh on Friday 5th June.
