IE6 is dying, Long live IE7!

Posted by

Or so you’d think (or should I say hope?). Now long time readers of this blog may remember my mutterings about IE7 beta a while back. Since my disastrous foray into Microsoft Beta hell and my inability to get back out without a full clean re-install of XP I have been a bit wary of even going for the stand alone.

So, it was with smug satisfaction that I came across an article which shows that even though the boffins at Microsoft have fixed some of the issues with IE it is still buggy as a very buggy thing. Now I’m sure that you’d agree having your content disappear doesn’t sound like it’s quite ready to see the light of day as a stable release however they are talking about shipping it out the door soon…

Now I agree that if you are to totally rehash your browser it may have been nice to sort out your rendering engine and bring it into this century. Heck it’d be lovely if they just went and stuck Gecko into their browser but I’m afraid I don’t believe in miracles, Santa, or common sense and obviously neither do Microsoft.

sigh So, it may come to pass that all us developers/designers may sit round the campfire and talk about the good old days of IE6 when you knew what your bugs were and what they did…

Go have a read (and weep)
