To work or not to work?

Ok, so it’s mid-summer (??) and there’s not a lot of jobs easily found out there. Here’s a few that sprang up, but if paid work isn’t really your thing, you could try a voluntary role at the Film Festival (see bottom of this posting)...

Communications/Website & Freedom of Information Officer, OSCR, Edinburgh
Salary: £21,292 – 28,520

OSCR is responsible for monitoring all 23,000 Scottish charities. They are looking to recruit a Communications/Website FOI Officer to lead on the technical management and development of their website including site design and quality and generation of content. This role will also be responsible for responding to requests for information from OSCR made under the FOI (Scotland) Act 2005. You will also assist in the planning delivery and review of OSCR’s communitcations strategy and events, preparing responses to parliamentary questions and providng briefings as required. You must be educated to degree level in a relevant subject, have the ability to stay calm and focused under pressure, be used to meeting challenging deadlines, and have good teamworking, communications and interpersonal skills. You should also have project planning and management exp in web development and experience of writing for the web and should be familiar with the requirements of the FOI (Scotland) Act 2005 and be used to responding to requests made under it. Web Developer, Church of Scotland, Edinburgh

Web Editor Church of Scotland, Edinburgh

The Church of Scotland requires a graduate calibre Web Editor, to manage the identification, prioritisation, updating and development of content on their web and extranet sites. This post will contribute to development of the content of the Church’s site and requires strong writing and editing skills, the ability to work closely with internal stakeholders, the knowledge and ability to provide content guidance and support to the network of internal providers, a flair for editing/adapting source materials and you should be comfortable executing broad design concepts. Please note this is NOT a web designer role. In addition to possessing good verbal and written communication skills and an understanding of customer needs, the successful candidate will be well versed in Microsoft Office and will have experience of Internet and web technologies (HTML, CSS, CMS and FTP). Web Content Writer, Edinburgh Film Festival
Full-time, voluntary – 4 weeks in August + 6 tickets to festival films &events.

On the Edinburgh Film Festival website there is a nice list of voluntary opportunities for people who are mad keen on films and would like to be involved with one of the best international film festivals (sort of like Cannes only at Capital House…) They have a voluntary position available to support the Web Content Editor sourcing and providing content for the film festival web site. Ideally suited to a journalism student or recent graduate, you should be a tenacious self-starter with some exp of writing and publishing to the web, plus be an excellent organiser. Apply online
