Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA®)

The widely respected Cisco career certifications bring valuable, measurable rewards to those seeking a career in IT, networking professionals and the organizations that employ them.

CCNA Discovery and CCNA Exploration are two new courses in the next generation Cisco CCNA® curriculum and offer accelerated learning opportunities for those students looking to gain an entry level position within an IT support or networking environment.

Industry related job roles include Help Desk Technician, Customer Support Representative, PC Support Specialist, Technical Support Representative, and First Line Support in Small Business and Internet Service Provider settings.

Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA®)

This course follows the CCNA Exploration curriculum, and prepares learners for the 640-802 CCNA examination over four 70 hour semesters; Cisco certifications
  • Network Fundamentals
  • Routing Protocols and Concepts
  • LAN Switching and Wireless
  • Accessing the WAN
CCNA Exploration teaches networking based on technology. It covers protocols and theory at deeper levels to help students succeed in networking-related degree programs and a range of professions.

Cisco Certified Entry Network Technician (CCENT®)

This course covers the first two CCNA Discovery curriculum courses, and prepares learners for the new 640-822 ICND1 examination over two 70 hour semesters;
  • Networking for Home and Small Businesses
  • Working at a Small-to-Medium Business or ISP
The curriculum is organised around the types of work environments students may encounter, such as a home or small office, and students develop applied, practical skills early in the curriculum. The certification prepares students for entry-level networking support positions and provides an assessment of their aptitude and competence for working with Cisco routers, switches and Cisco IOS

Eligibility

Students who enroll in CCNA Discovery training programme are not expected to have any previous technical skills or knowledge, aside from basic PC skills. The course is suitable for all jobseekers looking to gain their first job in IT and for those seeking to re-train or re-skill in this area.

CCNA Exploration candidates should possess either an NC Computing, HNC/HND in Computing or related discipline, CompTIA A+, or otherwise degree level educated.

All applicants must be registered unemployed, living in Edinburgh and be able to demonstrate that they are actively seeking work.

Course format/style.

The CCNA Discovery course is offered as a 6 month part-time programme, with two full classroom and lab based days per week, Mondays and Tuesdays 0930-1630.

The CCNA Exploration course is offered as a 12 month part-time programme, 6 months of two full classroom and lab based days per week, Wednesdays and Thursdays 0930-1630. The remaining 6 months are undertaken by blended distance learning while in the workplace.

The curriculum offers a hands-on approach to learning, and uses interactive tools and easy-to-follow labs to help students learn the general theory needed to build networks.

During your course, you'll have access to official Cisco online learning resources and assessment tools, study guides, and lab equipment, as well as instructor support and career guidance.

The programme is delivered at Net Resouces Academy in Edinburgh`s West End.
