Running since 1997, our hugely successful Graduate Internet Course (GIC) has been instrumental in providing training to over 700 unemployed graduates with over 550 of them going on to gain employment and self-employment with many setting up their own web businesses. This year the GIC course is a finalist in the National Training Awards!

The GIC course is designed for graduates and professionals, providing up-to-date skills, background knowledge and a practical understanding of the web and how businesses can use it effectively. The course runs for 26 weeks and covers Internet technologies & web design using HTML, XHTML, CSS, Adobe Photoshop Elements, PHP and MySQL, and an overview of E-Commerce practices.

After 10 weeks intensive training, candidates undertake a six week live project with a real client culminating in a formal boardroom presentation.

The course also includes workshops on career strategies and one-to-one support is offered with CV development and regular job search reviews.

After 16 weeks, exceptional candidates may be offered industry placements, although this is not guaranteed.

After the 16 week GIC core training, candidates may also join our Certified Internet Webmaster (CIW Foundations) programme and gain internationally recognised professional certification. .

SQMS logoUp until Aug 2006 the course was funded by Scottish Enterprise and available to eligible candidates free of charge under the Training for Work scheme. However, SE Edinburgh & Lothian have decided to change their training priorities and regrettably will no longer fund candidates under the TFW scheme. We are however accepting applications for fee-paying places at this time with some funding available to SE Fife residents.

Further information regarding Training For Work can be found on the Scottish Enterprise website.
