UK Electronic Skills Foundation
What we did
The UK Electronic Skills Foundation is a collaborative group of universities, public sector and electronics industry businesses brought together to promote training, scholarships and employment opportunities in this sector.
Aimed at 16-18 year olds, the site will act as the key information source for students considering electronics engineering as a career.
This is a unique programme in the UK, created by the National Microelectronics Institute with founder partners the Department for Business, Innovation & Skills and the Sector Skills Council for Science, Engineering and Manufacturing Industries. The aim of the UKESF is to generate interest in the industry and to provide high-level channelling, mentoring and financial support to bright graduates.
The website provides students with information and application procedures to apply to specialist summer schools, scholarships and work placement opportunities throughout Britain.
The core site was launched to coincide with 2010 University Open Days but is only the beginning of a longer term project to create an online community of scholars, mentors and employers.
Built in a MODx content management system, UKESF and NMI staff have full control over the site's content population and its extension.
Key university partners include University of Edinburgh, University of Bristol, Imperial College London, University of Southampton and University of Surrey who offer a range of summer schools, workshops and courses.
Along with major industry sponsors providing scholarships and work placements, UKESF particularly hopes to extend the reach of SME's in attracting new graduates to their training and recruitment programmes,
