Scottish Optoelectronics Association
What we did
The Scottish Optoelectronics Association represents over 85 organisations with members drawn from all sectors of the industry: plcs and SMEs to major university and research organisations. Started in 1994 its key objective is ‘to stimulate growth in Scotland through the knowledge, manufacture and application of optoelectronics’.
The new website acts as the main point of communication for its members and the project aim was to re-design their site to give a fresh, contemporary and professional face to the industry. We started with creating a new logo, introducing bright, modern imagery and building an intuitive architecture that would encourage members and public to actively engage with the industry.
The site has both a public and private area: the public area provides industry news, an events calendar, training and professional development opportunities, job vacancies and a searchable database of members containing full profiles, company information and contact details. It also provides links to some of the many projects that SOA supports.
The private area, accessible only to registered members, holds an in-depth library of industry specific information from competitor analyses to roadmaps, technology reports and cross disciplinary advice. Members can also access slides from presentations made at previous SOA events, search a directory of funding sources and find potential collaboration/partnership opportunities.
The site was built in the MODx framework with the addition of several bespoke modules, created specifically to handle SOA’s event and member management sections. The core site build was designed to be replicated in the ScotlandIS site to enable these two organisations to share costs and benefit from the extensive bespoke development work we completed.
