Web Jobs back on Board!

Apologies for all of you looking to find web jobs in Scotland. We’ve been so busy with our own web work that had to forgo our usual search for jobs that might be interesting to our students and friends. However, we’re back to the boards and so here’s a round up of the best jobs posted in the last week.

Web Officer, East Lothian Council, Haddington
Salary: £21,861-£27,165 pa

East Lothian Council is currently preparing to redevelop their corporate website and Intranet, implementing a new content management solution to provide online services to customers. They are looking for a self-motivated individual, with the skills and enthusiasm required to assist them to develop and maintain the site and Intranet. As key member of the Corporate Communications team, you will work under the direction of the Web Manager to help implement their web strategy and plan the integration of a range of online applications and interactive website features. You must be educated to degree level, supported by experience in IT / web development or a communications related field, ideally with an appropriate qualification in website development / design or equivalent. ECA Edinburgh College of Art

Edinburgh College of Art has two interesting web-related roles this week base in their Computing Service Department which provides the College with a broad range of services including network infrastructure, desktop support, administrative systems, web services, student computing support and central mail, file and print services

Post 1: Computer Services Technician – Desktop Support
Salary: from £18,702 pa

You will be responsible for providing PC and Mac desktop support for staff and students. Assisting with the Computing Services help-desk, you will manage College e-mail, user accounts, network printers and other shared resources. Part of the role involves supporting QDigital, a facility running digital imaging and video editing applications. With a relevant qualification in computing, you will have a working knowledge of Windows XP, Mac OSX, Windows 2003 Server and Active Directory. Evidence of flexibility to respond to a variety of staff and student requirements is essential.

Post 2: Computer Services Technician – Db Admin/ Web Services
Salary: from £18,702 pa

You will be responsible for Database System Administration, developing Web interfaces to databases, Introducing Web 2.0 Technologies. You will help develop further the Moodle Virtual Learning Environment and support Linux, Windows 2003 and mail server systems. With relevant qualification, you should have a working knowledge of database systems and web applications. A proven ability to learn new skills, and apply problem solving techniques is essential. Experience of SQL server or MySQL database administration, Linux system administration, Exchange 2003 or Cold Fusion would also be desirable.

Graphic Designer, University of Edinburgh

The growing web team within the College of Humanities and Social Science requires an experienced Graphic Designer. You must have an HND in Graphic Design or Visual Communication and be experienced in using Dreamweaver, HTML and CSS. You will also have experience in designing new web pages and creating graphical elements for web pages, designing templates and administering existing websites and populating development sites. Web Content Editor, Glasgow
9 weeks – £180 – £220 per week

  • Define key performance indicators
  • Develop prioritised content
  • Draft content according to stakeholders’ guidelines

You should be able to demonstrate commercial awareness, knowledge of web writing legislation and a good understanding of web use behaviour. You should be able to work effectively as part of a team and have excellent communication skills. Knowledge of the rules governing public sector websites would also be advantageous. You must have great attention to detail, be committed to a very high quality of graphics, layout and typography and be aware of web standards and best practice. Skills and experience:
