Murray Stable
The Murray Stable is one of the largest and the most innovative of the eleven stables of advocates that form Faculty Services Limited, the service company of the Scottish bar. It was established in 1991 by Iain Murray, one of the most experienced clerks in Scotland. The stable represents more than 11 Queens Counsel and 40 junior counsel, offering a wide range of expertise and experience in all aspects of civil law.
To date the stable has had a simple web presence: a few pages giving a brief summary of services to their main client group, primarily legal firms acting as agents to appoint counsel. With the advent of the new Faculty of Advocates site, chief clerk Iain Murray felt it was time to update the online services of his stable to make them more efficient and effective and to help streamline the internal administration required of his clerking staff. In addition he felt that the site should act as a key marketing tool to become more client-driven providing the best service to agents and thus adding value to their clients in turn.
We worked very closely with stable clerks and members to design a database-driven architecture (using PHP/MySQL) that would facilitate a comprehensive return of information on members, areas of practice and how to instruct counsel. The site’s function was to be a key tool in the pre-instruction process of finding the right counsel for the job. The whole needed to be based on a simple content management system that allowed both clerks and members to update information throughout the site allowing them to add new details, articles, publications and downloadable documents on a continual basis.
Finally it was deemed important for the site to be fully accessible to all members of the public. To meet the latest accessibility recommendations, we have incorporated a number of key strategies to ensure the coding tests up to the highest quality standard.
